With the rapid advancement of technology and the increasing connectivity of vehicles, the vulnerability to cyber threats has become a major concern for the automotive industry. In the current landscape of automotive security, there are high potential risks associated with connected vehicles. The growing number of cyberattacks targeting vehicles and their potential consequences, including compromised safety, privacy breaches, and financial losses. Since 2020 the UNECE’s World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations has implemented the new regulation to measure vehicle cyber risk. As well as securing vehicles by design to mitigate risks along the value chain, detecting and responding to security incidents across vehicle fleets, providing safe and secure software updates and ensuring vehicle safety is not compromised, introducing a legal basis for so-called “Over-the-Air” (O.T.A.) updates to on-board vehicle software.
